New Plugin: Renderers

Thea for 3dsMax is a so-called 'Live' plugin that integrates the Thea renderer from SolidIris directly into Max.

Features include:

Studio 75ive have extended their sale offering a 30% discount on all of their products (Ant Traffic Simulator v1.0 and Ant Stitcher v1.02) until the end of February.


Plugin Update: Import / Export

New Plugin: Modifiers

This plugin can be used to choose one or more nodes in the scene and create 'exploded' geometry. The exploded geometry is actually 3 or 4 sided faces and you have the options to add modifiers to enhance the finished geometry to your needs.


Plugin Update: Modelling / Animation

Changes for v2.2.1.0 are:
- Fixes the render settings modifier not applying assigned maps after loading a scene
- Fixes hair from guides not collapsing viewport hair into baked hair
- Fixes baked hair rendering viewport hair instead of render hair
- Fixes a crash when clustering modifier data gets corrupted

New Plugin: Animation

RayFire Cache allows you to cache thousands of objects and their animation in a single file to keep all mesh and animation data outside of the scene. Using a variety of playback properties you can get results completely different from what was cached.

Features include:
- Geometry and transformation caching
- Animatable speed property
- Playback by playback graph
- Reverse playback
- Caching with respect to Visibility track
- Playback activation by animated sub-object gizmo
- Per Element playback control by actions: hold in/out, offset, delete by age

New Plugin: Modelling

Laubwerk Plants are your easy way to use high quality, botanically approved plants with multiple variations, ages and seasons in your 3D application. Visual plant library browsing, a wide range of Level of Detail Options and much more comes through the bundled Laubwerk Player, a piece of software that brings the plant dataset to life.

The Laubwerk Player provides quick visual access to the plant library on your computer, automatic generation of default materials, dynamic control for level of detail. You get multiple viewport drawing options (like a simple hull shape or a skeleton) for quick and feedback and low memory footprint while editing the scene and generates the fully detailed model dynamically at render time.

Laubwerk Plants Kit 1 is available for Max 2010 to 2013 and costs €178. A demo version is available here.

Changes for v1.0.2.2 are:
- Massive improvement to painting with brush strokes with low spacing values
- Decreased the default spacing from 20% to 10%
- Eliminated most if not all of the UI flickering in when updating
- Improved the handing for drawing tablets
- Fixes a problem that caused the interface to flicker
- In the Manager, creating a new map now refreshes the map list
- The Box Select and Lasso Select tools now show the Hidden Surface Removal options
- Fixes a problem where a texture map would show up while navigating after deleting it
- Fixes the 'REFERENCE OBJECT...' warning being given incorrectly
- Fixes a problem with paint strokes temporarily disappearing

Plugin News: Carbon Scatter trial version available

e-on software, inc. have made a trial version of their Carbon Scatter instancing plugin available for download. The Carbon Scatter Trial Version is a free, fully functional version of Carbon Scatter 2, aside from the following limitations:
- The Trial Version ships with a limited collection of plants and polygonal meshes
- It is limited to rendering up to a total of 10000 instances
- Saving scenes and network rendering is disabled
- It is for personal, non-commercial use only
- Files cannot be exchanged with other Trial users
- Files are not compatible with commercial versions of Carbon Scatter 2
- Carbon Botanica is not available in the Trial Version
- Once installed, the Trial Version will work for 30 days

Carbon Scatter is available for Max 2009 to 2013 and costs $195. A demo version is available here.

New Plugin: Modelling

SplineLand helps to generate topographically accurate terrains from a set of splines, and lets you easily add roads to your terrain.

Features include:
- Create precise and topologically correct terrains from splines representing topographic contours
- A powerful algorithm lets you control the level of details only in areas you need
- You can use any type of spline, including open splines
- Add roads to the terrain as well as level areas, bedding courses and ground cuts
- You can assign ID's to various terrain details
- Control over grid density

SplineLand is available for Max 2008 to 2013 and normally costs €150. For a limited time, you can purchase a license for €100.
